In this role, you will be responsible for developing innovative technical solutions, creating compelling proposal content, and ensuring that customer requirements are met with compliant, cost-effective, and winning offerings.
The role of a Technical Writer – Solutions Architect (TW-SA) in Government contracting is vital for producing clear proposal writing, thorough documentation, and meeting compliance standards in GovCon projects. Skilled writers handle manuals (SOPs, internal source documents like gap analyses, capabilities matrices, compliance matrices), training materials, and system documentation using tools within the Vision IT resource center to support contracts such as RFPs and SOWs with precise attention to detail.
The Vision IT TW-SA must write clear documents for DoD and Federal Civilian agency responses. These writers make sure complex info is easy to understand. The role involves a few main skills:
• Technical Writing Skills: Writing clearly about technical topics.
• Technical Communication Specialist: Explaining tough ideas in simple words.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Knowing specific fields like engineering (to include cybersecurity, training/simulation support, ITSM requirements) or IT that relate to Government contracts.
• (This position can be fully remote)
Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring Compliance with Government Standards and Regulations
• Following Government rules matters a lot. Here are some key points:
• Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Compliance: Writers follow FAR rules to keep legal order during contracting.
• Section 508 Compliance: Documents must be accessible to people with disabilities.
• Plain Language Guidelines: Using simple language helps readers understand better.
Technical WritingProposal Development Support
The Vision IT TW-SA should have strong technical writing skills and know Government technical communication well. It helps to understand regulatory compliance documentation, too. Knowing the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) matters because it keeps documents legal in procurement. The right candidate will also follow Section 508 compliance so people with disabilities can access content, use Plain Language guidelines to make complex info easier to get without losing meaning, write clearly and concisely, and keep a steady tone across all documents.
• Create and edit technical sections of proposals, including meeting all PWS requirements, architecture design (including staffing/BOEs), and implementation plans.
• Strong technical writing skills
• Knowledge of Government technical communication
• Experience with regulatory compliance documentation
• Familiarity with FAR compliance
• Understanding Section 508 compliance
• Using Plain Language guidelines
• Consistent tone throughout documents.
• Participate in pre-sales activities, solution workshops, and oral presentations.
• Support win strategies by identifying technical discriminators and competitive advantages.
• Contribute to RFI responses, white papers, and capability statements.
Adapting to Emerging Technologies Like AI, ML, and Data Analytics
AI, machine learning (ML), and data analytics change how tech writing works in GovCon. The Vision IT TW-SA is expected to utilize AI to work faster without losing quality.
• Use AI tools for routine tasks
• Apply machine learning for better analysis
• Leverage data analytics to support decisions
• Increase productivity with emerging technologies
Focusing on Cybersecurity in Document Handling and Content
The Vision IT TW-SA must understand that secure document handling means keeping files safe when creating, storing, or sending them. This includes utilizing encrypted sharing, controlling who sees files, backing up data often, and following Government/Customer security rules designed for digital safety during federal contracts.
• Follow cybersecurity protocols strictly
• Use secure document handling methods
• Share files through encrypted platforms
• Control access permissions carefully
• Keep regular backups of all files
Cybersecurity Protocols in Documentation Processes
Cyber threats target sensitive Government info more than ever. So, the Vision IT TW-SA should understand that security rules must be part of the writing process. Documents have to follow guidelines like Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling from NIST SP 800-171.
• Follows CUI handling rules by NIST
• Collaborates with IT on secure practices
• Protects data while keeping docs accessible
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years in IT solution design, systems engineering, or architecture roles.
• Proven experience writing technical proposals for government or commercial clients.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise IT systems, cloud architectures, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex solutions clearly.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and proposal management tools.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting Federal Government proposals (DoD, DHS, or Federal Civilian agencies).
• Familiarity with proposal methodologies such as Shipley or APMP best practices.
• Relevant certifications (AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, TOGAF, CISSP, PMP).
• Experience with Agile/DevSecOps methodologies.
